I decided rather late that I needed to do something extra special for Justin's 30th birthday, so I planned a surprise fishing trip to Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA two weeks after his actual birthday. I spent all day Friday packing and getting everything ready, so that when he got off work, we could leave. I told him that he needed to be home 2 hours early so that I could go to a training session at work. When he got home, I surprised him by telling him we were going somewhere really nice to eat and that it was an hour away. I had taken GREAT pains to get all of our luggage in the trunk so that he really would think that we were just going out for a nice dinner. I proudly position myself in the driver's seat. I thought I was the best wife in the world and the smartest for pulling off such a surprise. Justin gets in the car after buckling Owen in his carseat and says, "Why is my pillowcase hanging out of the trunk?" MAN, I was so close!
No fishing trip is complete without a fishing buddy, so I had arranged for his dad, mom, and sister to meet us there. We ate at The Country Store Friday night and that is where we met up with his parents. Owen just begged to spend the night at Gigi and Pop Pop' s cottage. (Aunt Steph loved rocking him back to sleep at 1 am) We woke up Saturday morning to snow. It was nice to watch the fire burn in the fireplace and the snow coming down outside, even if only lasted for an hour or so. It was enough to get a south MS girl excited! Needless to say, Justin did not get to go fishing. He and his dad enjoyed checking out all of the sites at Callaway.
The weather was not perfect, Owen fell and bumped his head, the coffee pot was cracked, and Owen broke a coffee cup, but it was a great weekend!
We are already planning our next trip to Callaway. It is so family friendly and there is so much to do if you like to be outside. I would diffently recommend it to anyone with young children.
